Meet Tanuki!

Watch that belly, watch that tail, and keep your eye on that teapot...

It all started when Rania, our founder, tried matcha for the first time a few years ago. She grew up listening to tales of her father’s life in Japan while he was working as an engineer aboard a merchant ship, and the Japanese culture and mythology always seemed intriguing. Rania’s fascination grew even stronger when she became friends with her neighbor, a Japanese girl. They loved to cook and eat healthy food as well as having Japanese tea ceremonies.

After her long experience of studying herbs and botanical teas from all over the world, she found it! That unique and smooth taste, those hints of sweetness and grassy notes, gave her the feeling of nature, the feeling of wood and earth.

Enter Tanuki.

Unique, sweet and magical! Just like that tea! Tanuki is a typical Japanese raccoon-dog and also happens to be Rania’s favorite character-yokai in Japanese folklore. Many Japanese people believe that certain animals bring good fortune. So, lucky Tanuki-san represents: good fortune, steadiness and strength. It also signifies the ability to size up the atmosphere, as well as bold and calm decision making.
